Benefit Concert! Passing It Forward: Songs of Hearts and Hands

Blog banner.png

You are invited to a night of joyful music and community! We will gather together, remotely via Zoom, and be serenaded by beautiful music from two of Colorado’s best musicians, Carla Sciaky and Hal Aqua.

Carla will dazzle us with a sampling of originals, other contemporary songwriters, and songs from Oaxaca. Hal will delight us with social action, contemporary and worldbeat songs in English and Hebrew.

This is a benefit concert and all donations to Casa de Paz will be sent directly to immigrants locked in ICE detention centers.

Concert Details

  • Sunday, April 25

  • 7pm - 8pm MT

Our Purpose

Our purpose for this evening is to raise money to be sent directly to detained immigrants. We will send every immigrant we know in detention a $25 money order so they can purchase calling cards to communicate with their families, soap and other toiletries so they can stay clean during the pandemic, and snacks to supplement the meager (and often frozen, rotten, old) meals they are fed.

Our Message

Our message is for the people locked inside ICE detention centers. We see you. We love you. You are not alone.

Your Support

Your support matters so much. Here are a few words directly immigrants impacted by ICE detention for you:

“All of you outside do a lot, when I have no hope you give me strength to continue fighting for a better future for my family.”

“Thank you for your kindness, help, compassion, and especially, for the love that is in your hearts.”

“If the world were as all of you, it would be a perfect world.”

Highlands Church

Highlands Church was founded upon the belief that when God created the world, and human beings in particular, God said, “This is good.” Our origin story is one of goodness. We believe this goodness applies to all of humanity, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, abled or differently-abled bodies. As Father Richard Rohr says, “We cannot create our union with God. It is objectively already given. There’s nothing we can do or not do to increase or decrease God’s love for us.”
