the welcome team

Casa de Paz welcomes immigrants recently released from ICE detention in Aurora, CO.

As soon as someone is released from ICE, our team is there with a warm welcome. We do not know when people are released but we are “open” Monday - Friday from 10:30am to 6:30pm.

For Our Guests:

  • healthy meals

  • telephone, computer, and WIFI access

  • clothing and backpacks

  • personal hygiene products

  • transportation to the airport or bus station

Our Volunteer Opportunities:

Companion/Welcome van host:

Waiting at our Welcome Van (a.k.a Casa on Wheels/COW) is an essential part of our team. People get released at random times during the day, so we must wait at our welcome van to make sure that we don’t miss the guests who are getting released. A Welcome Van Host assures that our guests are properly welcomed and brings them to our Casa. The Welcome Van Host shift is available during the mornings.

When guests arrive at Casa, they are greeted with a warm meal and a few welcome items for them to keep. Once settled, we explain that everyone needs to contact their sponsors and work towards purchasing a ticket. A Companion helps guests make plans to move to their next destination. The Companion shift is available during the mornings and in the afternoons.

Welcome Van Hosts & Companions work alongside to help our guests during the day.

buy a pizza/Send a pizza:

Guests are released at any time during the day. Former guests have shared that they would simply love a slice of pizza upon release. Sign up to send us a pizza for delivery or donate a gift card to a pizza place!

Driver:

As a driver, you may be taking guests to the airport, hotel, or Union Station. Once guests have plans ready, we let you know what the current needs are when you arrive for your shift. In addition, we have an on-call drivers group where we reach out to drivers on an as-needed basis. The Driver shift is available during the mornings and in the afternoons.
