Our gift to appreciate teachers
Teachers,
(If you’re not a teacher, but you know one (or two or three), please send this to them.)
We wish you strength at the term’s end. In a year like no other, you’ve guided your students through one of their most difficult passages ever – and we can never be grateful enough.
Our volunteer community wants to thank you most especially for leading your students’ intercultural growth. We'd like to appreciate you with a free book to enjoy, one that may also support your teaching. It’s the deeply personal story of 3,200 detained immigrants from 79 countries – and the tiny Denver apartment where a determined group helped reunite them all with loved ones. Continue reading and at the bottom, you’ll find a link to request your free copy of the book.
The House that Love Built is the stunning saga of Casa de Paz, a hospitality home where simple, ground-shifting acts emboldened a community and attracted the United Nations, US Senators, and book-award recognition. It was founded by Sarah Jackson, a young woman whose primary resource was compassion.

Sarah’s innovative work in an urgent time is now taught in state and private universities, its lessons both practical and prophetic. Each year, Casa de Paz volunteers make 1,000 visits inside detention to stand alongside internationals who never see anyone they know. As ICE releases the immigrants onto unfriendly streets – often with just the clothes on their backs – Casa de Paz welcomes them with fresh meals, comfortable beds, and travel tickets to their families’ arms. Their work restores hope yet also draws death threats – and is honored with museum exhibits, praise from NGOs, and shout-outs from rockers like David Byrne.
Sarah’s book is intimate and eye-opening, filled with hard facts and history, featuring voices from every side of immigration – asylum seekers, ICE officials, DACA students, and policymakers. Her dramatic story and practical Student Discussion Guide are ready-made to inspire global perspectives, honor students’ immigrant stories, and bring doable actions within reach. Listen to Professor Jacob Fast from Lee University.
Teachers may also request a screening of Welcome Strangers, a prize-winning documentary about Casa de Paz. And Sarah offers a lively zoom presence to address all questions about the book, film, and immigration realities. If you think other educators may benefit from these intercultural tools, please forward this email to them; we’ll gladly send them a free book, too.
After all that you’ve given this year, we hope The House that Love Built will fill your tank. Just click here to share your mailing address with us and we’ll send a signed copy to your door, along with a Student Discussion Guide. Again, thank you for all you do. Your frontline efforts are a star in students’ crowns!
