December Newsletter

DID YOU HEAR?

In November, we saw 121 guests released from 41 countries! This past month, we also welcomed our first guests of the year from Kazakhstan, Uganda, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe! We are so lucky to have welcomed them to the United Stated here in Colorado at Casa de Paz!

"If you have more than you need, building a longer table not a higher wall."

In case you missed it:

Following the presidential election, please read the statement below from our Executive Director, Andrea Loya. Also below.

As we continue to reflect and take in the results of this week’s election, we are filled with heavy feelings that are beyond what we can express in writing. What we know for sure is that our immigrant friends strengthen our communities. We know that when times get tough, we have a community that we can lean on. Over the last twelve years, and three different administrations, Casa’s commitment to our community has remained strong. We will continue to shape ourselves and show up for our immigrant community in the ways that it needs us to. We have grown so much over the last three and a half years and this election does not change who we are or the values that we stand on; inclusion, representation, and human dignity.

The first Trump administration brought the separation of families and children at the border and Casa de Paz saw first hand the detrimental effects that it continues to have on our communities.
There is a lot of uncertainty around what the next four years will bring. We are certain that this community is strong and that the people at Casa de Paz have a commitment to those who suffer at the hands of privatized immigrant detention centers.

As an immigrant and a daughter of immigrant parents, my heart is heavy and my commitment to leading is strong. I am grateful to be at the front of such a beautiful organization and I stand proud knowing that my worth does not come from the place I was born in but the things that I bring to this community. Thank you all for your continued support. We will need to hold each other tighter. May we continue to build longer tables together instead of aiming for higher walls.
